Ecologically-Friendly Mosquito Management

The Bucket of Doom: An Ecologically-Friendly Alternative to Mosquito Fogging

Our issue with fogging is that despite what mosquito fogging companies say, chemical mosquito fogging…

  • Kills pollinators, fireflies, and beneficial insects

  • Eliminates mosquito predators (dragonflies, aquatic insects, birds), creating a rebound effect - mosquitoes return faster, requiring more spraying

  • Introduces toxins into lake water and soil, harming amphibians, fish, and the food web

  • Contributes to the ecological imbalance we are actively working to reverse in our lake system

The Bucket of Doom is a DIY trap that lures female mosquitoes to lay eggs, then kills larvae using safe biological control (Bti).

  • Targets mosquitoes only

  • Doesn’t harm pets, pollinators, birds, or other wildlife

  • Breaks the breeding cycle without disrupting ecosystems

Supplies:

Instructions:

  • Fill bucket with water, leaving several inches at the top

  • Add organic matter

  • Drop in ¼ Mosquito Dunk

  • Place stick inside for wildlife to escape

  • Cover the top with chicken wire

Notes:

  • Replace the dunk monthly & top off water and organic matter as needed

  • A good rule of thumb is to use 1 Bucket of Doom per 500-1,000 sq ft
