A Colorful Native Lakeside Garden

A Vibrant Riparian Buffer in Indian Lake, Denville

Set along the shores of Indian Lake in Denville, this vibrant native garden was designed to bring life, movement, and seasonal color to a lakeside property. The client envisioned a dynamic landscape filled with pollinators and blooms, and we responded with a richly layered planting that thrives in moist conditions while supporting local ecology.

The design features an abundant mix of native shrubs, perennials and grasses, including Red Twig Dogwood, Summersweet, Shrubby St. John’s Wort, Golden Ragwort, Joe Pye Weed, Swamp Milkweed, Aster, and Goldenrod. Together, these plants create a succession of blooms and textures from Spring through Fall, while also providing essential habitat for butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects.

Natural river rock boulders edge the garden, grounding the space and enhancing the lakeside charm. The result is a colorful, ever-evolving landscape that feels both intentional and effortlessly in-tune with its surroundings, curating an inviting, habitat-rich garden that truly comes alive across the seasons.
